Tara Torchia brings to Liberty Med something no certification alone can provide: she has personally lived the journey her clients are facing, and she has spent more than a decade turning that experience into exceptional, genuinely compassionate care for others.
After her own breast cancer diagnosis in 2012, Tara experienced firsthand how overwhelming the path through treatment, surgery, and recovery can feel. Finding the right post-surgical garments, breast forms, mastectomy bras, wigs, and recovery products - while managing medical appointments, treatment decisions, and deeply personal physical and emotional changes - was harder than she had anticipated. The compassionate, knowledgeable guidance she needed was not easy to find. That experience did not just change her perspective. It changed what she chose to do with her life.
In 2015, Tara founded The Unexpected Gift - a dedicated resource created specifically to help individuals facing breast cancer access the products, certified fittings, and deeply personal support they need throughout treatment, recovery, and survivorship. Over the following decade, she built trusted relationships with breast surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, lymphedema therapists, and allied health teams across Winnipeg - becoming a recognized and respected part of the city's breast health care network. Clinicians refer to Tara not just because of her certifications, but because they trust her to treat their patients with the same care and respect they would expect for their own families.
Tara is a Certified Breast Form and Bra Fitter with extensive expertise in surgical garment fittings and wig consultations. Her approach is calm, private, and completely individualized - because she knows that every person's diagnosis, treatment path, body, emotions, and recovery experience are uniquely their own. She never rushes an appointment or offers a one-size-fits-all answer. Every fitting is done with care, with patience, and with the kind of personal understanding that only comes from someone who has been through it.
